The NEA Foundation provides grants of $5,000 to improve the academic achievement of students in U.S. public schools and public higher education institutions in any subject area(s). The proposed work should engage students in critical thinking and problem solving that deepen their knowledge of standards-based subject matter. The work should also improve students' habits of inquiry, self-directed learning, and critical reflection. Since the Cool School Challenge was recently recognized by the NEA Foundation, we encourage teachers who have great ideas for enhancing the program and further engaging students at your school to apply for funding.

Schoolyard Garden Workshops by Seattle Tilth - Summer Intensive session July 19-23 (Earlybird Signup = June 28) (fall workshop also available). This weeklong intensive allows educators to immerse themselves in the organic garden classroom.
We will explore organic gardening basics, outdoor education techniques and ways to integrate the garden with classroom curriculum. All workshops take place in Seattle at the Good Shepherd Center. Visit Seattle Tilth website for cost and registration.
Green Chemistry Workshop by the WA State Dept. of Ecology, Environmental Education Association of WA, and Beyond Benign - July 27-29. A Green Chemistry workshop for middle school teachers will be held in Lacey on July 27-29. This should be an excellent class, with clock hours, lunches, and all materials for just $50.
Please help us get the word out. We want to make sure we have a full (25) class. A good response this year will help the possibility of holding a workshop for high school teachers next year.
