Program Info

Washington Green Schools is organized into five levels (Levels 1-5) and five environmental categories:

Certification
at each level is achieved by choosing an Environmental Category for your area of focus, and completing the steps in the Certification Rubric. Schools must earn 100 points per level to achieve certification. Additional points will not roll over to the next level. Each level is designed to take approximately one school year.

Upon certification at each level, a school can choose to advance to the next level, or renew at the current level.

Advancement process: To certify at the next level, a school chooses a new category, completes the corresponding assessment, implements a Lasting Change and verifies its impact, and takes action in the four other categories.

Renewal process: To continue certification status at the same level, a school completes an assessment in their previous category, implements a Lasting Change and verifies its impact, and chooses new action items from the other four categories.
