Program Updates

Chelan Middle/High School: Chelan Middle / High School has just initiated a new school-wide recycling / composting program, starting with the cafeteria. It is a slow process to train students (and staff), but we are optimistic and excited about where we are going. Already seeing a massive decrease in trash! - Nov 15, 2014

Tukes Valley Middle School: attended student summit today - Nov 6, 2014

The Island School: Thanks to everyone's efforts, the Carnival (October 5, 2014) was very GREEN! A single 33-gallon bag held all the trash for the entire Carnival. We recycled ten bins of plastic water bottles, aluminum cans, glass bottles and cardboard. Compostables, including all the pizza boxes, paper plates, paper cups, paper napkins, and food waste, all fit into a single 96-gallon yard waste cart. And the Freecycle Station found new homes for several pairs of cleats, many clothes and a fencing outfit. - Nov 2, 2014

Creating an Account

Washington Green School accounts are for schools only. If you are an individual please follow this link to join our email list. If you are a school please follow these four steps:

1. Check the list of participating schools to make sure your school is not already registered.

2. Review the Purpose of a Green Schools Account

An account is intended only for a school ready begin the program. Participation includes:

  • Organizing a Green Team of school staff and students
  • Completing program assessment and action requirements
  • Sharing results with the school community and public
  • Celebrating certification

A participating school uses an account to track progress, find helpful resources, and submit an application for certification. An account is not intended for general informational use.

3. King County schools and school districts (outside the city of Seattle) are eligible to participate in the King County Green Schools Program. Click here for more information.

4. Okay, I’m ready to create an account!
