Program Updates

Chelan Middle/High School: Chelan MS/HS: After our post implementation audit, we estimated a 50-60% reduction in waste thanks to a school-wide recycling/composting program. This includes a 75% increase in recycling/composting of appropriate items. Dozens of hungry families every week are also benefiting from the food share box, where students drop off unwanted whole food items. We now hope to decrease the number of days of trash pick-up and save $$$! 95% of our our middle school and 20% of the high school has been directly involved in the project implementation. - Jan 27, 2015

West Seattle Elementary: We just joined the program! - Jan 23, 2015

Seattle Country Day School: We were just awarded level 1 status! - Jan 23, 2015

Creating an Account

Washington Green School accounts are for schools only. If you are an individual please follow this link to join our email list. If you are a school please follow these four steps:

1. Check the list of participating schools to make sure your school is not already registered.

2. Review the Purpose of a Green Schools Account

An account is intended only for a school ready begin the program. Participation includes:

  • Organizing a Green Team of school staff and students
  • Completing program assessment and action requirements
  • Sharing results with the school community and public
  • Celebrating certification

A participating school uses an account to track progress, find helpful resources, and submit an application for certification. An account is not intended for general informational use.

3. King County schools and school districts (outside the city of Seattle) are eligible to participate in the King County Green Schools Program. Click here for more information.

4. Okay, I’m ready to create an account!
