What We Do
Make It Happen
1.2 million students spend their days in K-12 schools across Washington State. You can ensure they gain the skills and hands-on learning opportunities needed to be successful leaders. Our state depends upon the next generation… And Washington Green Schools is working with you to give them the tools they need to succeed.
Washington Green Schools offers programs that advance sustainability in schools. If you’re interested in learning more, get in touch!
Washington Green Schools’ keystone program is a certification system for schools. Green Teams, which include students and educators, investigate and solve environmental issues on school campuses and gain recognition for their efforts. Washington Green Schools provides teacher training, resources, support, and rewards for schools that track and share their results.
The goals of Energy Matters are to build energy literacy in students and advance energy conservation and efficiency in schools. Energy Matters includes a middle school science curriculum and an energy dashboard for school facilities. By connecting students to energy professionals, Energy Matters creates pathways into STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers for students.
Green Schools Toolkit
The Green Schools Toolkit aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and promotes conservation practices in schools and school districts. The resources in the Toolkit are designed for adoption at the school district level. One example is “Zombie Guacamole,” a fifth grade science unit that links education about food systems to waste reduction practices.
Washington Green Schools offers additional programs that engage students and school communities as leaders for the environment. For example, community partners volunteer to create and improve gardens on campus through our Days of Service. Green School Student Summits bring young leaders together for learning and inspiration. These programs support students and school communities to reach their environmental sustainability goals.
