Make It Happen

1.2 million students spend their days in K-12 schools across Washington State. You can ensure they gain the skills and hands-on learning opportunities needed to be successful leaders. Our state depends upon the next generation… And Washington Green Schools is working with you to give them the tools they need to succeed.

Green Teams in Action: St. Michael Parish School

The Green Team at St. Michael Parish School in Olympia, WA has a one-of-a-kind member named Misplace Monty.

Students will tell you that while Misplace Monty isn’t a real person, the character helps their school community learn and practice proper waste disposal. Misplace Monty is part of a student skit that is put on by Green Team members to spotlight proper sorting behavior for a specific item.

Every day, the Green Team at St. Michael Parish School monitors waste bins to help peers and staff dispose items into the correct bin. For the times when students aren’t there in person, they have created posters with real examples to help those deliberating if a Lunchables container goes in the garbage or the recycling bin. When the Green Team spots a recurring sorting mistake for a specific item, they perform a skit to teach the school about the item’s proper disposal. The star of their skits is, of course, Misplace Monty!

We think Misplace Monty is an awesome example of a creative and memorable strategy to Make a Lasting Change. What unique ideas does your Green Team have?
