Introducing Washington Green Schools

Washington Green Schools is a growing nonprofit that guides and supports students and K-12 school communities to become leaders for the environment. Now beginning its ninth year, the organization serves more than 500 diverse schools across Washington, plus many community partners. Its programs educate students, educators, and partners about environmental issues, including climate change, waste, food and gardens, energy, water and transportation, and engage them in environmental action projects at school. Students and teachers strengthen their environmental and STEM literacy and leadership skills, and schools and school districts become greener and healthier. Our vision is that every school will model, teach, and practice environmental sustainability and that every student will attend a green and healthy school.

Washington Green Schools seeks community leaders who are passionate about kids and the environment to join its Board of Directors and help the organization achieve its mission and goals. The organization is in an exciting phase of growth and needs experienced professionals to join the leadership team.

Specific needs on the board include a commitment to helping fundraise for the organization, experience with strategic, sustainable organizational growth and willingness to connect us with your network. Washington Green Schools has a commitment to racial equity and will prioritize board candidates who add diversity to the team.

The board meets every other month from 7:30-9:30 am. These meetings are typically held in downtown Seattle, but are currently being held over Zoom. Board committees meet in alternate months.

This is an excellent opportunity for a community leader who would like to give time and talent to an organization making a positive impact on kids and the environment.
